Standard warranty for the Surface Hub is 12 months. Extended warranty may be an option. In the case of a malfunction, the standard warranty guarantees that a field engineer will arrive on-site within three days. Extended warranty provides a next-day site visit to ensure your device is back up and running as quickly as possible. CDW and our partner Microsoft offer an extended warranty for the Surface Hub.

The extended warranty for Surface Hub includes:

  • Breakdown: Your extended warranty contract provides unlimited coverage for Breakdown warranty claims, subject to the limitation of liability

  • Repair and Replacement: If the system is damaged, repair or replacement costs will be covered. Limitations apply.

  • Shipping to Depot Centres Microsoft will arrange for the removal of the defective Surface Hub and shipment to their depot center. They will also return the Repaired Surface Hub or replacement Surface Hub back to you.

You might consider purchasing an extended warranty and accidental damage coverage if you are considering buying Microsoft's new Surface Pro 6 in the coming year. The Surface Pro 6 was given a score of 1/10 by iFixit, meaning it is difficult to repair at home.

This year's Surface Pro 6 tablet, like many others, has a low repairability score due to Microsoft's excessive use glue to hold the component and tablet in place. It is difficult to remove the battery and display assembly.

"All repairs require that the display assembly be removed -- it is expensive and stubbornly glued in position, and prone for shattering," iFixit stated in its report. Complex construction makes disassembly and assembly tedious compared to other tablets.

Microsoft offers a standard limited warranty policy for its hardware in the United States. This includes a one year warranty for defects or malfunctions and 90 days technical support for pre-installed software. The standard warranty is not enough. Surface Pro 6 owners who are cautious can purchase extended warranties. Microsoft Complete is its own protection plan that covers two years of coverage for $149. Microsoft Complete includes coverage for accidental damage (liquid damage and cracked screens), but a deductible will apply if the damage was caused by the user and is not due to manufacturing defects.

Microsoft recommends that Surface Pro 6 owners who purchased it without a warranty plan have a minimum of 45 days to purchase a protection plan. Customers can visit either the Microsoft retail store or online. Customers have reported that Microsoft will exchange defective products for new or refurbished items due to the difficulty of disassembling and repairing Surface products.

Some retailers might also offer extended warranty protection. Geek Squad protection plans are offered by Best Buy, for instance. Geek Squad protection plans, like Microsoft Complete, also provide accidental damage coverage. Best Buy offers a range of services starting at $120 for a 1-year plan and ending at $260 for three-year coverage.

Consumers should be aware of the storage configuration when buying their Surface Pro 6. Unlike other Surface Pro models, iFixit stated that the storage module of the Surface Pro 6 cannot be removed. This means that you will not be able upgrade the solid-state drive to a larger capacity drive if you have changing needs.
